Seattle, being the progressive, quasi-socialist city that it is, tends to foster an air of civil disobediance (the WTO riots spring to mind). Having moved from Florida, a Republican stronghold, I noticed the political attitudes shifted considerably to the left; I had this epiphany after seeing GW’s effigy being dragged down a major thoroughfare on a Saturday night. The first photo in this series is an Orlando billboard congratulating the troops; the bulk of photos following that are of two different protests at Union Square; and the last shot is the first news report of Scooter Libby’s short-lived guilty verdict.
The images below are screen grabs from MSNBC’s web site, dating from 9-11 to the first months of the Iraq occupation. I’m posting these here as a visual post-script to the images above. All in all, a great time capsule…
UPDATE: I captured these today (December 8th) as I was taking my daughter to see Santa Claus. Little did I know, Gitmo Claus and his “reindeer” (hooded figures in orange jumpsuits, connected with tinsel and touting shopping bags) would pass by the line outside of Nordstrom’s. I followed, camera in tow, and ran into a few more interesting signs…
