O FELIX CULPA! MEA CULPA, MEA MAXIMUS CULPA!!
This series began as a photo essay on religious imagery in the deep south, including Florida, Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas, and Tennessee. It never actually occured to me that the most intense Christian symbolism would be found right here in Seattle, a notoriously progressive town. The first image was taken last week at Red Light, a clothing store in Capitol Hill; the billboard after that was discovered near a federal prison outside of Montgomery, Alabama; images four and five were taken today in downtown Seattle, across from Union Square; the infared telephone poster was captured in Montlake; the rest of the pictures were catalogued from Pioneer Square, Pike and 4th Ave., Capitol Hill, the deep south, and Los Angeles. NOTE: The picture of Yours Truly was taken by a street preacher, who graciously let me hold his sign with another gentleman.
The piecé de résistance, discovered on a Hollywood Blvd. sidewalk this summer. O L.A., that den of iniquity!
